How to configure Twitch ads without surprising viewers

Set the schedule, pre-roll behavior, and notices from your current dashboard without promising income or copying stale settings.

Twitch Ads Manager with duration and frequency controls
Cómo configurar los ads en Twitch para no perder viewers

Short answer

Open Monetization > Ads and confirm the controls available to your account. Set ad minutes per hour, frequency, first-ad delay, and notices around real breaks. Twitch currently says three minutes of mid-roll ads per hour removes pre-rolls for that hour and gives Affiliates and Partners a 55% net ad revenue share.

Before you start

  • A Twitch Affiliate or Partner account with monetization onboarding complete
  • Access to Monetization > Ads in the Creator Dashboard
  • The official Ads Manager help page open for a current policy check
  • A test broadcast and, if you use moderators, someone who can confirm notices

Step by step

  1. 01

Confirm that your account has access

    Nicole, Ads Manager requirements ↗

Open the Creator Dashboard and go to Monetization > Ads. Twitch's current documentation describes Ads Manager for Affiliates and Partners. If Ads is missing, check your Affiliate or Partner status and monetization onboarding before copying another person's dashboard. A screenshot from somebody else does not prove that the same control is active for your account.

What you should see: You can see your account's Ads Manager or identify the pending requirement without changing unrelated settings.

  2. 02

Read the current rule before choosing a number

Official Twitch Ads Manager help ↗

Open the official help page and compare it with your dashboard. Twitch currently says three minutes of mid-roll ads in each 60-minute period removes pre-rolls for that hour. It also says three minutes or more per hour gives Affiliates and Partners a 55% net ad revenue share. Those are program conditions, not an estimate of what you will earn.

What you should see: You can separate Twitch's published condition from any earnings calculation or promise.

  3. 03

Choose the ad minutes per hour

Nicole, minutes per hour and pre-rolls ↗

Turn on scheduling only after reading the minutes-per-hour control. Pick a density you can explain and support with real breaks. If you choose three minutes, the dashboard may divide them into different ad breaks. Check the pre-roll and revenue-share indicators shown by your account. Do not raise ad density for a theoretical figure if the interruption damages the format of the show.

What you should see: The dashboard shows your selected minutes, and you know how many breaks the show needs each hour.

  4. 04

    Choose automatic or manual frequency

Nicole, automatic scheduling and frequency ↗

Automatic lets Twitch adjust ad length and frequency. Manual lets you choose shorter, more frequent ads or longer, less frequent breaks when that control is available. Match the choice to the content. A match with no pauses handles a long break poorly. A talk show with planned breaks has more room. Write the schedule down so you can explain it to chat without reading the dashboard live.

What you should see: You have a saved frequency, and each break maps to a moment when you can pause or recap.

  5. 05

Match the first ad to your opening

    Nicole, first-ad delay ↗

In Advanced Settings, review First Ad Delay. If you open with a countdown, that section may hold a break. If you greet viewers and begin the main content at once, leave time for people arriving through the live notification. Do not copy a fixed delay from the tutorial. Choose one that matches your opening scene and check the dashboard timeline for the first scheduled break.

What you should see: The timeline puts the first ad outside your greeting and first important explanation.

    Review auto-snooze and subscriber viewing

Nicole, auto-snooze and subscriber viewing ↗

Enable Auto-Snooze Ads if you want the system to delay breaks during high-engagement events such as Hype Trains. Then decide whether subscribers will see ads through the control available to your account. Read the full label before saving. Both choices shape the channel experience, so record them beside the schedule instead of leaving them buried in Advanced Settings.

What you should see: The dashboard shows your snooze preference and an explicit choice about ads for subscribers.

  7. 07

Configure notices that someone will use

Nicole, stream and moderator notifications ↗

Enable a notification early enough to finish a thought, pause the game, or ask a moderator to warn chat. Twitch supports notices for you and your moderators, and a moderator with access can snooze an ad. Test the message before the main stream. A warning sent to an unwatched panel is useless. If chat gets a notice, keep the wording short instead of delivering a speech every hour.

What you should see: You or a moderator sees the warning in time and can describe what to do before the break.

Test the flow and review the result

Official Twitch Ads Manager help ↗

Add the ad actions you need to Stream Manager. Run a test broadcast, watch the countdown, and confirm whether the break lands where expected. Then check Earnings Analytics after Twitch processes the stream. The help page says ad revenue can take up to 48 hours to appear. Compare similar sessions cautiously. Audience, demand, and region vary, so one session is not a rate you can promise.

What you should see: The schedule, countdown, and notices work, and you save a dated observation without projecting income.

If something does not work

Ads does not appear under Monetization.
Confirm Affiliate or Partner status and that monetization onboarding is complete. Sign out, sign back in, and read the official help page. If the control remains missing, open a case with Twitch Support. Do not force a dashboard URL or copy settings from another account.
An ad interrupts a match or explanation.
Review the first delay, frequency, and snooze option. Enable a notice that you or a moderator can see and prepare a break scene. For content you cannot pause, recap what happened after the ad. Test the full schedule before the next important broadcast.
The dashboard or policy does not match the tutorial.
Use your account dashboard and official help as the reference. Record the review date and remove any figure or condition you cannot confirm. Twitch removed the extra steps from the former Ads Incentive Program, so an older guide may show menus that no longer apply.

Test before you go live

  • Ads Manager appears in your own account
  • You checked the official help page on the day of setup
  • Minutes per hour and frequency match real breaks
  • The first ad sits outside the important opening
  • Snoozing and subscriber viewing have an explicit choice
  • You or a moderator receives the warning in time
  • The test finished without publishing an income promise

Common questions

Do three minutes per hour remove pre-rolls?

Twitch's current help page says three minutes of mid-roll ads in every 60-minute period removes pre-rolls for that hour. Check that your dashboard shows this state after saving. Pre-roll ads do not count toward those three minutes.

Does three minutes per hour give me a 55% share?

Twitch currently says Affiliates and Partners receive a 55% net ad revenue share when Ads Manager runs three minutes or more per hour. That percentage describes the split, not the final amount. Your earnings depend on the ads served and conditions that vary by session.

Does the Ads Incentive Program still exist?

The current help page says its extra steps are no longer needed. Partners keep revenue estimates, and Affiliates and Partners can receive the published share through Ads Manager. If a tutorial asks you to enroll in the former program, check the current dashboard first.

Should I leave ads on automatic?

Automatic works when its breaks fit your format. Manual may fit a show with planned pauses when that control appears in your account. Test both in comparable streams. The useful setting is the one you can anticipate and explain without cutting the moment viewers came to see.

How much will I earn from Twitch ads?

There is no reliable amount for every channel. The published revenue share is not a rate per stream. Earnings vary with ads served, audience, country, and demand. Read Earnings Analytics after Twitch processes the broadcast, and do not use another channel's calculation as your forecast.
